REFORM was founded in Shenzhen in 2018 by Chinese architect Sai Shu. A graduate of the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands (now part of Delft University of Technology), he spent many years working at leading international architecture practices and has lived and worked in both the Netherlands and China. REFORM represents a revolutionary spirit: challenging conventions and rebuilding systems.

Our practice brings together architecture, interiors and landscape design, with a focus on engaging, experimental projects and research. Our small team of no more than ten is driven by young architects with overseas experience and a shared passion for design. Rooted in local contexts, with a global outlook, our work is not limited to a particular geography. We believe design can bring energy to overlooked places, creating more diverse experiences and more distinctive identities. It is not only a means of solving problems and maximizing commercial value; it is also about emotional resonance and cultural identity. We seek to cross boundaries, exploring connections between architecture, avant-garde art, popular culture, Eastern experiences and future technologies. Through design, we aim to reshape how people understand urban space and ways of living. We don’t refine, we REFORM.

Since its founding, REFORM has won or been shortlisted in major international competitions, including the International Conceptual Design Competition for Quzhou City Landmark Building, pedestrian bridges and urban terraces at two hills along the Optics Valley Golden Cross Axis in Wuhan, Phase II of Guanlong School in Shenzhen, and the Shenzhen Baguang International Bio-Valley Innovation Industrial Park. Recognition includes selection by gooood among China's 20 young designer representatives in 2024, selection by Archiposition among China's representative young architecture practices in 2021, nomination for Urban Environment Design (UED)'s Outstanding Young Architects award marking 20 years of contemporary Chinese architecture, and inclusion in Fortune China's Best Designs in China 2025 list. International honours include a nomination for the 2025 Dezeen Awards, a 2025 Architizer A+Awards Special Mention, a 2024 World Architecture Festival (WAF) Highly Commended distinction, and a 2024 MUSE Design Awards Gold award in the United States. Our projects have been exhibited at the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam and the Milan Expo, and featured in Dezeen, designboom, ArchDaily, gooood and Archiposition. Drawing on our leadership team's extensive experience on major projects worldwide, we aim to become an architecture practice with world-class influence.
